How are Dermaplaning and Microdermabrasion similar?
Both of these treatments should be done by an esthetician and go hand in hand with a facial appointment. They are both a painless additional step. Both address renewing skin, minimizing wrinkles and removing dull skin to expose another skin level.
These procedures both provide immediate results and will have you leaving with a noticeable radiant look, but there are a few differences to consider below.
Dermaplaning and Microdermabrasion Devices
Each of these treatments use different devices to reach different goals in their facial treatments. Dermaplaning includes using a scalpel, a surgical scalpel, while microdermabrasion is done with a small electric device.
For Suction/clogged pores:
Microdermabrasion involves spraying your skin with an exfoliant while simultaneously sucking debris from your skin. This exposes a new layer of skin and cleans the pores til they are bare.
For Top layer & peach fuzz:
Dermaplaning on the other hand manually removes the top layer with the scalpel (essentially a straight razor) and in doing so takes off the white peach fuzz we all have over our face. Dermaplaning does not address hyperpigmentation or anything of that nature. Think how sometimes scraping off the top layer of something can reveal a shining lower layer, that’s exactly what Dermaplaning is.
Which facial treatment is best? Dermaplaning or Microdermabrasion?
It depends on what your goals… If dark spots, clogged pores and hyperpigmentation are more your concern then microdermabrasion is the way to go for you. If you like your skin or feel like dryness is more your issue, then dermaplaning is your key to success.
